# Background

I faced difficulties fitting into conventional educational systems during my younger years and struggled to learn in school. Unfortunately, the South African schooling systems at that time lacked the knowledge and resources to address learning difficulties such as dyslexia effectively.

Despite these academic challenges, I discovered my passion for computers. My family was one of the early adopters of personal computers, as my father was pursuing a career in programming. I enjoyed building and configuring computers at home.

It took some time for me to gain confidence in my abilities and identify my strengths. Over time, I took on various roles, such as SysAdmin, Solutions Architect, IT Lead and IT Manager. Additionally, I developed a passion for mentoring and helping others grow within the workplace. I witnessed positive responses to my knowledge and willingness to learn and mentor those around me.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling around the country, or abroad if possible, Photography, hiking, high-end audio, playing the guitar, and exploring home automation.

My family and I reside in Johannesburg, South Africa, with our two dogs. I am seeking an opportunity to move, integrate and work in Europe, preferably in the Netherlands or Germany.

# Strengths

I am skilled at quickly learning new tools, understanding complex concepts and guiding and mentoring others in the technologies I am knowledgeable about. Over time, I have transformed from a shy and introverted individual to a confident speaker comfortable with discussing tech and related topics with large groups.

I have excellent problem-solving abilities and a solid technical background in designing complex solutions. Furthermore, I can work well under pressure and maintain a positive and friendly attitude.

# Reasons

I am currently working as a contractor and considering immigrating for several reasons.

  • Firstly, I want to provide better opportunities for my daughter's future education.
  • Secondly, living conditions in South Africa, such as power and water infrastructure, have posed challenges for me. In addition, I am eager to upskill myself in DevOps and development as I aim to change my career direction.
  • After spending 17 years in Globalcomms and Elvey, I felt stagnant regarding technological exposure and growth.
